Credit value: 20 CAT points
Course participants can be accredited by Manchester Metropolitan University with 20 CAT points at either postgraduate or undergraduate level. For details see “Unit Handbook” and “CAT Points and Manchester Metropolitan University Awards” below.
This Unit, which is delivered over 4 x 1 day sessions, provides a thorough exploration of Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems. Course participants will explore the needs of individuals with complex communication difficulties and critically evaluate the range of Assistive Technology resources and strategies available.
The course will encourage a thorough analysis of solutions, including issues surrounding assessment, implementation, support and training. Participants will consider a client-centred approach and explore the processes and decision making issues involved in the assessment of individuals who require AAC.

*If course participants are studying for an award at undergraduate (H Level) there will also be a fee payable to Manchester Metropolitan University, currently this is approximately £220 per award but is subject to change.
